THREE MORE QUALIFY FOR PONY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS WEST!
Mega Rally was held at Hansen Dam Equestrian Center May 22.  Teams from Santa Ynez to Orange County and Las Vegas to Catalina Island competed in Show Jumping and Dressage.  Brie on Marcus Aurelius lead the Riveview team with one rail down in four rounds.  Kathryn did a super job with her new mount, Painted Wagon, with one refusal and two rails down.  Lilly on Tucker came back from a difficult first round to have three great trips.  With Gabby in support as Stable Manager the team earned 2nd place overall!  Felicia went as stable manager for a scratch dressage team that earned 4th place.  Brie and Kathryn qualified to represent the Camino Real Region in Show Jumping at Championships West next August and Felica qualified to be a Regional Stable Manager for Championships.  GREAT JOB!
EVERY ROUND A TOP RIBBON!
Brie rode Marcus for a first, two seconds, and a third in classes to 3'3" at the Camelot Jumper Show on May 9th.  Greg rode Painted Wagon to a second and third in classes to 3' at her first jumper show.  Well done!

RVPC TEAM LEARNS A LOT AT D COMBINED RALLY
Elaine on My Teddy Bear led the RVPC team in a clean round and very good dressage score at the D Combined Rally; in Agoura on May 1st.  Two members had just started riding new mounts and a third was new to eventing.  The team pulled together to earn 6th place and came home with tons of new skills.  Lilly put them to good use winning numerous classes in the Ojai ETI show on the following day!

RIVERVIEW PONY CLUB TEAMS WIN TWO DIVISIONS AT QUIZ!
The Regional Quiz Rally, held on Catalina Island in April, drew teams from 8 clubs.  Amanda, Gabi, and Elaine won the Jr. D Divsion and Felicia and Kathryn won the Sr. D Divison.  (Quiz is like a spelling bee, but on horse management knowledge.)  SUPER JOB!

PONY CLUB MEMBERS QUALIFY FOR TETRATHLON WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Riverview Pony Club’s Alison English led the Camino Real Region scores at the United States Pony Club Southern California Qualifying Tetrathlon Rally, February 27-28, 2010.  Santa Rosa Valley Pony Club’s Emma Bowers was right behind Alison as was her sister, Amanda English.  Alison and Emma earned scores that qualified them to represent the Region at the United States Pony Club Western Zone Championships this summer.

Alison earned 3,349 points to win 1st place in the Junior Girls Division.  Emma earned 2,768 to win 2nd place in the Novice Girls Division.  Amanda earned 2,477 points to earn 3rd place in the Novice Girls Division.

The USPC is the only feeder organization for the United States Olympic Modern Pentathlon Team.  Modern Pentathlon combines scores earned in running, swimming, shooting, horseback riding, and fencing.  Pony Club offers the competition without fencing.  Members can compete in Tetrathlon at different levels based on their age and experience.  Riding horses is done over a course of jumps at different heights for each level; points are based on rails down, stops, and time.  Running, swimming, and shooting distances change for each level.  The first two are scored on time while the last is scored on hits.  Scores are combined with the highest score to win.

Alison is a C-1 member and Amanda is a D-3 member of Riverview Pony Club.  Alison attends Foothill Technology High School and Amanda is a student at Anacapa Middle School.  Emma is a D-3 member of the Santa Rosa Valley Pony Club and attends Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School.  Riverview Pony Club has members from Ventura, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Oxnard, and Ojai.  Santa Rosa Valley Pony Club draws from Camarillo, Somis, and Moorpark.  The Camino Real Region has 18 Clubs and Riding Centers from Santa Ynez through Los Angeles County and Las Vegas to Catalina Island.

Alison and Amanda have competed in track, swimming, and riding, but shooting is something new for them.  They are also beginning to learn fencing.  Riding is the most difficult sport to learn as it involves empathy with horses, animal husbandry, as well as athletic skills.  Pony Club’s emphasis on husbandry as well as riding skills enables members to excel in this area.

Alison earned a position on the Camino Real Region’s Show Jumping Team last summer.  The Team went on to win third place in the Developing Rider / Horse Division at the Western USPC Championships.  Emma earned a position on the Region’s Quiz Team and the Team went on to win first place in the Junior D Division of Western Championships Quiz (similar to the Academic Decathlon, but on horse husbandry).  Those Championships were held in Auburn, Washington; this year’s Championships will be in Woodside, California; and next year’s National Festival and Championships will be in Lexington, Kentucky.  International Pony Club Exchange Competitions also regularly occur.  Alison, Emma, and Amanda have their sights set on competing for positions on national and international Pony Club teams in the future.

Camino Real and Southern California Regions of the USPC in conjunction with Southern California Pentahlon has sponsored training clinics and the Qualifying Rally at the Equestrian Center International in Palm Springs.  Michael Cintas, 2008 US Equestrian Coach for the Olympic Modern Pentathlon Team, has tirelessly led other Olympic coaches in preparing members to be candidates for future teams.  Other competitors at the Rally are already trying out for the next Olympic Team.

Riverview Pony Club hosted the Regional Show Jumping Rally at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on October 23-24.  Thirteen teams with 46 riders from all corners of the Camino Real Region competed over very demanding courses.  They were also judged on how well they cared for their mounts throughout the day.

Riverview's team of Kathryn H on Catapult, Amanda E on Ziggy, Felicia P on Levi, Gabi P on Teddy, and Brie M as Stable Manager earned 3rd place in its division and 4th place overall.  Gabi was one of only 12 riders to earn a medal for all clean rounds!

The Riverview / Moonlight team with Alsion E on Razz and Lilly H on Tucker earned 6th place in its division and 7th place overall.
